Doral City Council Unanimously Approves Expansion Plans for Trump National Miami Condo Complex

The Trump Organization’s ambitious plan to develop up to 1,500 luxury condos at Trump National Doral Miami has taken a significant step forward, despite facing some opposition. The Doral City Council narrowly approved the rezoning proposal, with a 3-2 vote at a meeting held on Wednesday evening. Mayor Christi Fraga and councilman Rafael Pineyro cast the dissenting votes.

The project seeks to rezone 56.4 acres of the 4400 Northwest 87th Avenue property to allow for a downtown mixed-use development. Notably, the development will not encroach upon the existing golf course or resort facilities but will instead occupy the southeastern portion of the property, currently used as parking lots. The full property spans over 600 acres.

Trump’s vision for the development includes 1,498 residential units and approximately 142,000 square feet of commercial space, with an emphasis on high-end retail and restaurants. The phased development plan outlines five stages, with around 300 luxury condos per phase, starting at over $2 million each. Additionally, 20 exclusive townhouses are planned for the golf course, promising even higher price points.

This revised proposal scales back from the over 2,200 units initially pitched in 2022, reflecting a more measured approach. The Trump Organization acquired the property, including the famed Blue Monster golf course, out of bankruptcy in 2012 for $150 million and has since invested $250 million in renovations.

Attorney Felix Lasarte, representing the Trump Organization, highlighted the minimal anticipated traffic impact, noting that condo owners are expected to use their units only about 20 percent of the time. With final approval pending a second reading, sales could begin as early as next summer.

While Trump has licensed his name for various developments in South Florida, this project marks the first branded residential development directly undertaken by the Trump Organization in the tri-county region since their licensing deals for Trump Grande and Trump Towers in Sunny Isles in 2001.
